If You Feel Like a Shadow of Yourself, Here's Why — and What to Do About It

Most high-achieving leaders hit the same wall. Not gradually. Not gently. It shows up as a blunt, uncomfortable realization: “I feel like a shadow of myself.”

When I first heard a client say this, I knew there was a lot going on in their world. What they didn’t know is I had just had another client say something very similar - even with global clients.

If this messaging hits close to home, this is for you. You're not the only leader who's said it — even if the only place you've said it is in your own head, at midnight, embarrassed that the person everyone else relies on could feel this hollowed out.

Here are three patterns I see constantly in the leaders I work with. If even one of these hits, it's time to do something about it — not someday, now.

1. You're depleted, and you're hiding it well.

You used to love this work. You were good at it — the kind of good where people came to you for answers. Somewhere along the way, the job stopped being the thing you built and turned into triage. You hold it together in front of your team, your clients, everyone — and quietly, your brain doesn't work the way it used to.

This isn't a phase. It's what happens after years of pouring out with nothing pouring back in. Stop calling it a rough patch. Name it.

2. You're carrying weight that was never yours.

You know you should delegate — but handing off work you've spent decades mastering feels like giving away the thing that makes you you. You know you need boundaries — but you're an empath in a leadership seat, and the second someone else struggles, you absorb it like it's yours. You are more stressed than the people you lead. That's not dedication. That's a warning sign, and it's costing you.

3. You're isolated at the top — and no one talks about it.

The higher you climb; the fewer people get it. You stop learning from the people around you because you're already past where they are. There's no one at your level to think out loud with, so you don't. You carry it alone, and you've decided that's just how it is. It isn't.

The Reframe

The problem isn't you. It's the environment — one that was never built for someone carrying your responsibilities, your empathy, and your ambition all at once. "I feel like a shadow of myself" isn't a permanent state. It's a signal. Signals are meant to be acted on, not managed around.

This fall, I'm opening a small number of seats in my Leadership Influence Mastermind. It starts mid-to-late September and runs for four months, wrapping up no later than mid-December. Four group sessions. Four private 1:1 coaching sessions with me. That's it — no filler, no fluff between now and then.

This isn't a sign-up-and-watch-a-video program. You get me, every single session. And you get a small group of leaders who are finally at your level — people who push your thinking, call out your blind spots, and remind you that you don't have to carry this alone.

If any part of this felt a little too familiar, that's not a coincidence. It's time to stop running on empty and start building something that actually feels like yours again.

Seats are limited. If you're serious about this fall, book a call now — let's figure out if this is the room for you.  You have options!  I will also be running retreats in 2027 in the mountains of Colorado - first spots will be available to those in my masterminds.

You've spent a long time working hard for everyone else. Now it's your turn.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the mastermind start, and how long does it run?

It starts mid-to-late September and runs for four months, wrapping up no later than mid-December — so it's fully contained before the holidays.

What does the program truly include?

Four group sessions with a small cohort of leaders at your level, plus four private 1:1 coaching sessions with me. Eight total touchpoints over four months, built for depth, not volume.

Is this a self-paced course or pre-recorded content?

No. This isn't a sign-up-and-watch-a-video program. Every session — group and 1:1 — is live with me. There's no library of modules to work through on your own.

Who is this mastermind for?

High-achieving leaders who are excellent at what they do and exhausted from doing it alone — people who are quietly depleted, carrying weight that isn't theirs, and don't have anyone at their level to think out loud with.

What happens after I book a call?

The call is a real conversation, not a sales pitch. We'll talk through where you are right now and whether the fall cohort is the right fit before you commit to anything.
